This is a story about lost donuts. Meet Purva (Myself). She assumes things. Meet her friend, V. V also assumes things, but differently. They have one common weakness - Donuts.
The best things come in small packages. Small gestures don't shout but offer love quietly
Over the years we have developed this tradition of sending each other donuts... Sometimes to say thank you, sometimes to say sorry, at times when we know the other needs them and some days just bcoz..
So one evening when she said she was morose, I thought I should send her donuts to make her feel better. But the problem was she was still in the office working and would reach home late in the night. It was just one of those days!! I had her address and she had a roommate who would be back home by now. I thought I should surprise her. She will reach home and see those cute little donuts from 'Mad Over Donuts' sitting on the table and she will be happy.
So I ordered the donuts on Zomato. Did not inform her. It was 9.30 PM. They were timely delivered and someone took the delivery. I waited till 11 PM for my friend to reach home but she was still at the office. I believed the donuts were delivered so my work was done. When she will reach home she will find them and she will drop me a message. So I slept.Â
Obviously I was expecting to see a message from her when I woke up the next morning. There was none. Now I am not a kind of person who will sit and speculate things specially when it comes to this friend of mine. So I confronted her. I messaged her.
Me: Liked the donuts?
V:Â What donuts?
For a second I thought she was kidding but then I realized it is morning and she is not a jovial person in the mornings.
Me: Ask your roommate !!
By now I was already anxious enough to recheck my Zomato app for successful delivery. I also sent her the screenshot.

V: No Donuts !!!
I was like 'Zomato ka delivery boy Mad Over Donuts ke donuts leke bhaag gaya.' But my mind knew better. I knew there was a goof up. But on who's end that I had to find out. Now you can call it my instinct or my sixth sense...
Me: Please confirm your address.
Guess What !! I was the one who got the surprise. She had shifted to another flat in the same society and I didn't know. Why?
V: It never came up in our conversation...

V decided to go get her donuts from her old apartment and new tenants. She rang the bell, a guy opened the door. She knew it then. Her message said it all.
V: Forget the donuts. Bachelors live here.
Me: How could they eat someone else's food?
V: Free food. That too donuts. Plus a bunch of boys. What else do you expect?
That's what they told her too with a smile and "Thanks for the Donuts"
Well, at least someone enjoyed those sweet little donuts !!!
Learning 101: When sending someone a surprise, first step is to confirm their current address.
